Licence endorsements

General requirements

Danish-certified Examiners are authorised—via endorsements on their Examiner certificates—to revalidate and renew ratings on Danish-issued pilot licences. This authorisation does not extend to non-Danish licences unless specific approval is granted by the relevant competent authority.

To ensure Examiners are confident with the endorsement process, it is included as a core part of both:

  • Initial Examiner training
  • The revalidation and renewal process for current Examiners

These guidelines serve as a quick-reference procedure for licence endorsements.

Important: If an Examiner is uncertain during the endorsement process, they must contact the competent authority before proceeding, to avoid any risk of incorrect endorsements.

Licence Endorsement Procedure

When endorsing a pilot licence, Examiners must observe the following:

  • Only ratings listed on page 4 of the licence may be revalidated or renewed without involvement of the competent authority.
  • The endorsement must match the wording on page 4 exactly (exception: SP class/type ratings may be divided into two lines per AIC B 23/2021 when applicable).
  • Rating validity periods must align with current EASA regulations.
  • If a rating is revalidated within 3 months before its expiry, the new expiry date will be the original expiry date + validity period.
  • If revalidated more than 3 months in advance, the new expiry date will be end of the current month + validity period.
  • If a pilot requests a shorter validity period, the competent authority must be consulted.
  • Instructor privileges (revalidated or renewed) cannot be endorsed in the licence.
  • Examiner privileges may never be endorsed by another Examiner.
  • If in any doubt, the Examiner must not endorse the licence.

New endorsement Format for Danish Licences

Due to recurring misunderstandings, the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority has revised licence endorsements to improve clarity. Key changes include:

  • Only explicitly endorsed privileges in the licence may be exercised.
  • MEP(land)/IR and SEP(land)/IR endorsements are no longer used.
  • Instrument ratings will now be listed as:
    • IR(A)/SEP
    • IR(A)/MEP
These will appear on separate lines in the licence.
  • For single-pilot classes and types with instrument privileges, endorsements will be split across two lines:
    • One for the class/type (e.g. Bell 206)
    • One for the instrument privilege (e.g. IR/Bell 206)
  • Cross-crediting is only allowed via the designated procedure.
  • Cross-credit is only granted where instrument privileges are already valid in the licence.

Examples:

EXAMPLE A

MEP(land) with instrument privileges is now split as separate MEP and IR(A)/MEP lines.

Example B

A SET(land) with instrument privileges must show:

  • SET(land)
  • IR/SET

EXAMPLE C

If the class/type rating expires before the IR rating (e.g., Bell206), no privileges (VFR or IFR) may be exercised after the class/type expiry.

Note: For MP aircraft, rules remain unchanged. Privileges are entered on one line (e.g., A320/IR).

Guidelines for Cross Credit (Fixed Wing)

Refer to Appendix 8 of Regulation 1178/2011 for full details.

Eligibility and Requirements:
  • MPA & HPCA types give credit to:
    • IR(A)SEP and SE types, if the pilot has flown 3 IFR departures/approaches using PBN within the past 12 months (one must be an RNP APCH on an SP aircraft in SP operations).
    • IR(A)MEP, if section 6 of the SP non-HPCA form was flown.
  • SP Multi-engine (non-HPCA) types provide credit to:
    • IR(A)SEP, IR(A)MEP, and SE types (no extra requirements).
  • SP Multi-engine MP-limited (non-HPCA) types give credit:
    • To IR(A)SEP and SE types (same 3 IFR/PBN requirement).
    • To IR(A)MEP, if section 6 of SP non-HPCA form was flown.
  • SP Single-engine types give credit to:
    • IR(A)SEP and SE types (no additional requirements).

No cross credit is provided to MPA or HPCA types.

Important: Credit is valid only for types with a current IR privilege in the licence. E.g., no credit can be granted to a SET(land) if it lacks an IR endorsement.

Guidelines for Cross Credit (Helicopter)

  • MPH types provide credit to:
    • SE and SP-ME helicopters, if 3 IFR/PBN flights within the last 12 months can be documented (one must be an RNP APCH on an SP helicopter in SP ops).
  • SP Multi-engine types provide credit as above.
  • SP Single-engine helicopters give credit only to same category, with no additional requirements.

Credit is valid only for SE and SP-ME helicopters with existing IR privileges.

Cross Credit Application Process

Two options are available:

Option 1: Licence Holder Initiated

Option 2: Examiner Initiated

  • A qualified Examiner verifies compliance with all requirements (including Danish-specific ones)
  • If eligible, the Cross Credit Examiner Form is completed and the licence may be endorsed accordingly.

Important: Examiners using Option 2 must ensure full understanding and application of both the general requirements and endorsement procedures.
